A former police deputy has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison after being found guilty of brutally assaulting an inmate.
The deputy was accused of pepper-spraying and repeatedly beating the prisoner, even though the man was already restrained and unable to defend himself. Prosecutors described the attack as a clear abuse of power and a shocking violation of civil rights.
During the trial, evidence showed the deputy dragged the inmate outside, sprayed him directly in the face, and punched him multiple times, causing serious injury. The court heard that the assault was so violent the officer even broke his own hand while striking the prisoner.
The judge condemned the actions, saying they were “a betrayal of the badge” and handed down a sentence of more than eight years behind bars.
The case has since gone viral online, with many people praising the verdict as a rare example of accountability within law enforcement, while others expressed outrage that such abuse ever happened in the first place.
