A community has been left in shock after a 73-year-old grandmother was killed during a brutal carjacking carried out by a 14-year-old boy.
According to police, the grandmother was approached outside her vehicle when the teenager attempted to steal it. In the struggle that followed, the boy forced her away from the driver’s seat but failed to let her go before speeding off. Witnesses said she was dragged along the road for several meters, suffering severe injuries that proved fatal.
The teen was quickly arrested and now faces a series of serious charges, including murder and aggravated carjacking. Prosecutors have confirmed they are seeking to try him as an adult, given the severity of the crime.
In court, the victim’s family described their heartbreak, calling her a loving grandmother who did not deserve such a violent end. Relatives wept as the charges were read, with one family member saying: “She spent her life caring for us, and in seconds it was stolen away by someone who had no respect for life.”
The case has sparked fierce debate online about youth crime, accountability, and whether children as young as 14 should face adult-level sentences. Some argue that rehabilitation should still be possible, while others believe the seriousness of the crime demands the harshest punishment.
The grandmother’s tragic death has since gone viral on social media, with thousands offering condolences and demanding justice in her name.
