Former U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken out following the death of Judge William Franks, praising the late judge as “a man of great integrity, fairness, and respect.”
Judge Franks, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 68, had reportedly presided over several high-profile cases during his long career on the bench.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Judge Franks was a tremendous man — tough but fair. He believed in justice, in America, and in doing what was right. We lost a truly great person.”
The message surprised some followers, as Trump has often been outspoken in his criticism of judges throughout his political career. However, sources close to the former president said he had “a deep respect” for Franks, who once ruled on a case involving one of Trump’s business ventures in the early 2000s.
Tributes have poured in from across the legal community, describing Judge Franks as a “pillar of fairness” and a “mentor to many.”
Funeral arrangements are expected to take place later this week, with several notable political figures reportedly planning to attend.
